It covers years-of-service pay, notice pay (aviso previo), proportional vacation (feriado proporcional) and the 90 UF cap. This page is for Chile only; Mexico has its own finiquito rules and its own calculator.

How Chile severance pay works

Under Article 161 (needs of the company), severance is one month's pay per year of service, with a fraction over six months counting as a full year, and an 11-year cap. The pay base is capped at 90 UF.

On top of that come notice pay (one month's pay if 30 days' notice was not given) and feriado proporcional: 1.25 vacation days per month worked, converted to calendar days. The calculator shows each line separately, including the optional AFC deduction.

Why a calculator for Chile, in English?

Chile's finiquito combines several caps and conversions (the UF cap, the 11-year cap, business days to calendar days for vacation) that are easy to get wrong by hand, and most sources are in Spanish. This calculator is written in English for workers and employers who search in English.

The calculator is free, needs no account, and runs entirely in your browser. Amounts are gross, in Chilean pesos.

Frequently asked questions about Chile

What calculators does Calcotia offer for Chile?

For Chile, Calcotia offers one calculator: the finiquito calculator, which computes years-of-service pay, notice pay and proportional vacation under the Código del Trabajo, with the 90 UF cap and the 11-year cap.

When do I get severance pay for years of service in Chile?

On dismissal for the employer's needs (Article 161), you get one month's pay per year of service, with a fraction over six months counting as a full year, up to 11 years. The pay base is capped at 90 UF. On resignation, you get no years-of-service pay, only pending salary and proportional vacation.

What is the 90 UF cap?

The pay base for years-of-service pay and notice pay is capped at 90 UF (Unidad de Fomento). If your monthly pay is above 90 UF, the calculation uses 90 UF instead of your full pay. Proportional vacation is not subject to that cap.

Is the Chile calculator free?

Yes. Every Calcotia calculator is free, works instantly in the browser and needs no account or sign-up. The result is a gross amount in Chilean pesos.
